Night time in la Défense, Paris brings out a whole new look and feel. It’s as if each building puts on it’s formal wear for a night out on the town. However in this case the skyscrapers ARE the town. The colour temperature of the interior illumination of the buildings ranges from blue green to bright orange depending on the type of lights being used. Add to that the trail of red lights of the passing vehicles to finish this light painted scene and the image above is what you end up with.
On a sad note, as I was walking back to my hotel about one kilometer from this spot I saw something that still haunts me. As I was approaching my hotel, I saw a man who must have been in his 70s pushing and steering a car with the help of 2 other younger men who were pushing from the back of the vehicle. They were crossing an intersection and I guess trying to cross before the light changed to red when the older gentleman slipped and fell under his own car. The car ran over his legs and I really didn’t see much more than the car bob up and down as the tires rolled over him. For a split second I had imagined the worst and that his head or ribcage was crushed, mercifully he got up with the aid of his companions and they carried him away to get help. I felt rather helpless to do anything to assist him and I just hope that he ended up being okay.
