The two things that come to mind when I think of the master architect Antoni Gaudi (Antoni Plàcid Guillem Gaudí i Cornet) are 1- Genius! and 2- What was that guy smoking?? Walking around in Casa Batllo you feel like you’re in a Tim Burton movie, the only thing that gives you reason to doubt this is the fact that Johnny Depp is nowhere to be found. Each room, staircase, hallway, door, window and wall are unique. I’m not sure that you can find a straight line in the whole building, everything seems to have a curve, twist or round edge. In certain places you feel like you’re underwater as you’re looking through warped glass at walls covered by blue and turquoise tile. Other rooms have an organic feel to them and you get the feeling of being inside some strange mythological creature, this is why it’s know locally as Casa dels ossos or the house of bones. Nothing escaped Gaudi’s touch in this architectural masterpiece, the attention to detail is incredible. How lucky the Batllo family was to be able to live in such a stunning and unique building. Today Casa Batllo is a museum open to the public that is one of the most popular tourist spots in Barcelona.
If you find yourself going to Barcelona, do yourself a favour and make sure to visit the magnificent buildings and other eclectic structures that Gaudi built, he saw the world in a very unique way and his legacy is something we can all share and appreciate. I’ll have more images of places that Gaudi designed in future blog posts.

You are simply a great photographer. I won’t be exhausted praising you and your work. Thank you
Thanks for the nice comment! I just wish that I could paint like you, keep up the great work.
Ken, your photos are simply stunning. This brings back such memories of Barcelona.
@Ariane- You never hear anyone say that they didn’t like Barcelona and now I see why. It’s a gem of a city and what nice energy, I absolutely loved it. Got some great photos from Barcelona I’m saving for the blog, this is just the beginning!
Hi
This is a great shot, the angle shows the works of a great artist.
I thought it was restricted to take photos inside Casa Batlo
Cheers,
Andy
I come across your blog from facebook and it is actually nice Thnkx for giving this sort of an incredible article
@ Andrew:
I was in Casa Batllo in September. To my delight, they are totally cool about taking photos. The only restriction is that you don’t publish photos without their consent. Getting shots without including hordes of other tourists taking photos is another matter.
Can I also recommend a body-side access gear bag? Barcelona is terrific but it has its share of pickpockets. Fortunately, I had one. I had absolutely no idea that, as I was going through a busy food market shooting crowd scenes that two would-be thieves were shuffling along behind me trying to get into my backpack. I felt nothing and the first I knew about it was when a police officer tapped me on the shoulder to tell me that they had just arrested the two thieves. They had spent so long trying to access the contents that they were spotted and arrested. Very surreal!
As it happened, the only gear I had with me was in my hand in use. I was using the bag tote stuff. So they were arrested for trying to get into a bag that contained two damp pairs of socks and some sweaty cheese sandwiches :D
Magnificent photo and just as I remember it. You capture the detail and “feeling” of the space beautifully.
Do you sell copies of your photography?
Would love to have this for my apartment.
Hi Martin, Thanks for asking. I’m not currently selling prints but I am working on it. Send me an email and I’ll get back to you when I get the print sals going. :-)
