The Colosseum at night, Rome, Italy

What a great building to photograph! The Roman Colosseum originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre (Amphitheatrum Flavium) was built from 70 AD to around 80 AD. It’s rather incredible that it has survived these last two thousand years considering all the wars, earthquakes, looters and stone thieves that it has had to endure. It must…

Where’s the ‘like’ button?? Fantastic picture!

The bluish and orange glow makes the place come alive.

@ Sue -Better than one “like” button I have several! All those little pop up buttons are even better than a “like” button. They allow you to share the images via Facebook, Twitter or any of the other services that you may subscribe to. I’m always grateful when someone likes an image enough to want to pass it on to friends. There is also that little Photoblog Awards button at the footer of the blog where you can vote for mine. Glad you liked the shot, thanks for the nice comment :^)

La Grande Arche de la Défense in Paris, France

Wow. It makes me wish I was there again. Haven’t been there in 11 years. I love the little flecks of orange on the various buildings.

This is a beautiful shot. I was in Paris years ago and could see it in the distance, but didn’t have a chance to see it up close.

Thank you both, I think the whole la Défense area is a visual treat. Now, I’d like to see Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong!

Boris

Been to paris several times and never seen this building…yet, nice angle.

Torre Telefónica designed by Santiago Calatrava, Barcelona, Spain

I thought that I’d stay on the Olympic theme today in honour of all the athletes and volunteers that worked so hard to make the 2010 games in Vancouver a smashing success. Today’s photo is from Barcelona in Spain and that giant tower to the left is the telecommunications tower built to accommodate all the…

Olympic Aquatic Centre in Montreal, Canada

I thought that I’d show an Olympic themed photo considering today was the closing of Vancouver’s very successful Olympic games. This photo was taken at Montreal’s Centre sportif du Parc Olympique. The Aquatic centre is part of a complex of buildings that make up Montreal’s Olympic Village that was built for the 1976 Olympic games….

Today I am happy to share some amazing art with you. The ceiling at the Church of Saint Ignatius of Loyola at Campus Martius (Chiesa di Sant’Ignazio di Loyola a Campo Marzio) was painted by Andrea Pozzo. The amazing fresco that stretches across the nave ceiling set the standard for such types of work in…

The Mistaya River’s white water rapids in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

I just loved this solitary twisted tree along the banks of the Mistaya river in Banff National Park. After spending a week or so wandering through the majestic Rocky Mountains I was feeling a similar to the way the tree looked, alone yet peaceful surrounded by all the incredible natural beauty. And like the tree,…

Chateau Frontenac as seen from Rue Cul de Sac in Quebec City

Vieux Québec or Old Quebec is one of the most beautiful inhabited parts of Canada and one of the oldest in North America. Walk around inside the fortified walls of the city and you feel like you are in Europe with all the narrow cobblestone streets, stone masonry, copper roofs, outdoor cafes and American tourists…

Thanks Janie! If you have not yet visited Quebec City, I’d highly recommend it.

It´s magical, I hope to visit this place one day. Congrats for the pix. Awesome job!!!

That’s one beautiful shot, Ken! Great point of view, fantastic detail and texture on the foreground buildings, and one of my favorite buildings in the background. (Used to live in Montreal.)

This is a very nice capture and I was wondering if you would share your settings as I am heading to Quebec City next week and I would love to try and capture this myself. Any help is greatly appricated. Also what photo processing did you do afterward i.e. HDR or what?

Thanks

Beautiful interior of the Late Gothic style Duomo in Milan, Italy

Some buildings are impressive from the outside but disappoint you when you walk inside them and sometimes the opposite is true. The Duomo di Milano or Milan Cathedral is one of those buildings that make your jaw drop from the moment you lay eyes on it from the outside till the moment you leave it’s…

The paintings in the duomo are hug in November and December to celebrate the birthday of San Carlo Borromeo. They are known as the Quadroni I am going to look the saint up on the net to try and find out his importance in the church.
Regards Paola

Thanks Paola! I was surprised to see so many beautiful paintings in the Duomo but they really add a nice touch.

This looks like a painting, amazing image. Any photos of the Duomo from the outside?
